Review of Black Clover Episode 166: “Captain: Yami Sukehiro”
WARNING: Spoilers for Black Clover Episode 166

Another explosive episode this week! Everyone is locked in a battle over the fate of the world. This week split time between two of the three Dark Triad members, Dante and Vanica. It has a before the tides are turned type feel to it, with the tide being in either sides favor. Last week looked as though it could be victory for our leading ladies, but this week Megicula showed them the fight won’t be so easy.
The devil-possessed are clearly overpowered. At eighty percent power there is no way a single human can beat them. Even with three humans and a water spirit, Megicula/Vanica was able to break free of their trap with little effort. The girls are really going to need to break all their limits if they hope to win. We’ve caught a glimpse of the fighting spirit left in Noelle. She has come such a long way from when we first met her. I’m really hoping for another shocking power boost for all of these ladies.
How can we talk limits without highlighting the master of pushing past them, Yami Sukehiro. He is a truly a human worthy of being captain of a magic knight squad. At every major battle we’ve seen him dig deep and surprise us with a powerful new spell. There was no disappointment this time around either. While maybe not as artistically appealing as “Dimension Slash,” “Death Thrust” is the most powerful spell we’ve seen him perform yet. It’s an evolution of all the skills he’s demonstrated over years perfected into a single strike. Yet even that isn’t enough to defeat Dante. This is a villain that appears to have absolutely no weakness. The clue to victory has to be that his body is magic. What’s weak to magic? Anti-magic, obviously.
Now that Asta has rejoined the fight and regained his strength, thanks to Yami, next week will pit magic versus anti-magic. Personally, I’m hoping for a dark magic plus anti-magic combo spell but who knows what could happen. Maybe Asta’s devil will come out again and he can get in on that eighty percent boost. No matter what happens, this team up has been in the works for weeks and I cannot wait!
Until next week!
